We call ourselves "philosophical furniture designers" because, for one thing, we are philosophers. Philosophy has taught us a certain attention to detail that infects all of our designs. Furthermore, we give ourselves this title because we design furniture to suit particular purposes and specific aesthetic sensibilities.
This sets us apart from other designers and other builders. We design with no preconceived notions of possibility. We build from original plans that we develop on a project by project basis. In our estimation, each project is an opportunity to express our perceptions of your personality and your desires. It is in this way that our products take on the role of art.
We are not engineers and we do not seek efficient designs. Rather, our efforts are spent on making the best quality products available that are ideally suited to the customer's tastes. To us, this is what the word "custom" should convey.
Given this approach, we do not have a price list. Generally, we price out designs based on standard materials costs, design costs, and standard overhead and labor costs. We consult with you about your visions and your aspirations, so the piece is as much your design as ours. Together, we can make your artistic imagination manifest.
